Gig reviews

April 8, 2007

Within the last 3 weeks i have seen two high profile gigs from two differing bands. The 1st gig i saw was ‘Faithless’ in the Birmingham NIA, and most recently i saw ‘Razorlight’ in the Birmingham NEC. Let’s start with…

Faithless
I knew pretty much that this event would involve some dancing and thus i made sure i got standing tickets. i went with a guy called Rob, and my flatmate came with her old flatmate and a friend from work, though they drove, and subsequently Steve (the driver) had his car towed away for illegal parking, with a £350 pay up charge—irritating, and somewhat amusing, because they had to rush to the station (i know, i’m a git!).

Moving on. Faithless played all their killer tunes such as: Insomnia, We Come 1, Salva Mea and several tracks from thir new album. Maxi Jazz rocked, and the supporting singers were cool too. I avoided the sweaty stinking mosh pit, but still got a good view and boogied and bounced around too. Now i need to find time to listen to the new album!

Razorlight
The last few weeks to months i have been worried about going to the gig as the original person i was going with pulled out and it seemed no-one wanted to go as the gig was on Good Friday evening. I did consider selling it on eBay, but didn’t want a random freak next to me, plus the Brum gig hadn’t sold out. Finally i managed to find someone, a friend called Vicky, who was my junior Dr from my 1st job and who actually lived in Brum, so the journey for here wasn’t too far! I drove and thankfully there was plenty of parking though the charges for parking were a bit steep!

Most of the songs on the album are 3 minute pop songs, which in the gig were stretched out, but ultimately the gig finished after 1 hour, with an encore of 4 further songs. All in all a cool, sing-a-longable gig. Thankfully despite having seats, everyone got up and the opportunity to boogie a bit was possible, though the dance activity was less energetic than with the Faithless gig.

No further gigs booked at present, but i am always looking for something cool to see. As per usual, i got cheap gig t-shirts to prove i went though they are cheap knock off!

New job, nights and general update

December 7, 2006

It’s been a while since i last updated my blog. haven’t honoured my promise to update it more regularly—oh well!

So yesterday i started my new 4 month F2 job which is Cardiology. I was well and truly happy to finish doing Psych. I met my new boss who wanted me to be in OPC but i couldn’t as I didn’t have any: ID, bleep, parking permit, met secretary etc. I found out i have only 10 patients at the moment which is OK and met some of the nurses on my new wards. Unfortunately i won’t really get to meet my team until 10 days time as i am starting nights tonight. Tonight i am on a 11am to 11pm shift and next week i am on a 7pm to 7am shift. It’s been ages since i’ve done nights, let alone medical nights and at least 2 years since i’ve done medical nights at GEH—bit nervous really! Not held a cardiac arrest bleep in ages too!

Since the last time i wrote my blog, i have seen the new Bond film and seen 2 gigs: The Charlatans and The Futureheads—i’ll try and write some reviews in due course.

Other than that, i’ve continued to play footy and tried to study for my MRCP Part 1 which is on Jan 23rd.

I’ll attempt to update this blog this weekend or next week.

Cheers
